Abstract
Summary
We present a novel numerical scheme based on the Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method for simulating elastic wave propagation and scattering in generally anisotropic media, with massively parallel implementation. The DG method is designed for problems that range from laboratory-scale rock physics to basin-scale exploration and regional seismology. The model representation is based on unstructured tetrahedral mesh with local multi-scale refinement. The degree of polynomial approximation is adjustable to ensure accurate solution through a highly irregular mesh. We integrate our DG method with a FWI in piecewise smooth models via velocity updating and interface shape deformation.
