Abstract
Recent improvements in imaging techniques and workflows can derive additional value from existing legacy datasets. This case study from the Gulf of Mexico Shelf illustrates how new techniques in high-resolution earth model building and advanced migration algorithms, complemented by image enhancement, can improve existing seismic images, ultimately adding extra value for further exploration and development. We focus in particular on enhancements arising from well-data-constrained anisotropic model building, high-resolution wide azimuth common-image point tomography with offset-vector tiles in a novel binning scheme, and reverse time migration with vector image partitions combined with image conditioning and enhancement techniques. We clearly demonstrate that reprocessing with optimal use of new technology is the most efficient and cost-effective way to increase the value of available data.
