Abstract

Summary

In marine seismic exploration, the first arrival refraction is used to study sedimentary base usually. The non-first arrival refraction created by Cenozoic Era sedimentary formation is not utilized very well for difficult identification. The non-first arrival refraction can be identified in long offset section, and this provides a new way to research the frame of sedimentary formation under the South China Sea.

We try to identify and pick the refraction layers at far offset profile of the northern South China Sea. At last 4 non-first arrival refraction layers are picked out and corresponding velocities are calculated. The result shows the Cenozoic strata velocity becomes slower toward the deep sea in trend. The non-first arrival refraction shows good research prospect.
