Abstract
Methods for wavefield injection are used in for instance reverse time extrapolation of shot gathers in reverse time migration. We show that by carefully considering the models used for wavefield injection, a number of long-standing problems in marine seismic data processing and imaging can be solved using conventional time-domain finite-difference propagators. The wavefield injection methodology requires pressure and particle velocity data such as multicomponent towed marine or seabed seismic recordings. In this paper we outline and demonstrate a number of important applications including wavefield separation (deghosting), direct wave removal, source signature estimation and reverse time migration using both primaries and multiples.
