Abstract
Summary
The basin modelling and petroleum system simulation workflow presented in this paper to achieve modelling of tectonically complex basins is made of the following components: structural restoration, to obtain a structural scenario, gridding, and forward petroleum system simulation. The latter is carried out with the new calculator Arctem, designed for unstructured meshes and refined modelling of faultcontrolled fluid flow. We present the example of a cross-section in Central Apennines on which this new technology was applied. It shows that detailed modeling of fault contribution to fluid flow is absolutely necessary in these faulted systems, and that we now have a new technology to model it.
