Abstract

We investigate foam EOR processes in fractured carbonate reservoirs using a high resolution simulation model of a middle Jurassic Carbonate ramp, which is an analogue for the highly prolific reservoirs of the Arab D formation in Qatar. As the connectivity and density of the fracture network is a key uncertainty in carbonate reservoirs, effective fracture permeabilities are computed using discrete fracture networks (DFN) for sparsely distributed regional fractures. We use the reservoir model to analyse the impact of injection strategy (surfactant alternating gas vs. co-injection) and switching time on viscous pressure drop and sweep efficiency during foam displacement in the presence of geological uncertainties such as fracture network properties and wettability distributions.
