Abstract
Summary
Conventional AVO techniques are mostly based on the linearised Zoeppritz equations while inverting for impedances. In this paper a novel AVO inversion is presented which makes full use of the nonlinear relationship between seismic amplitudes and elastic reservoir properties. This implies that nonlinear effects as internal multiple scattering and mode conversions over the reservoir interval are properly taken into account. The scheme inverts directly for compressibility and shear compliance with the compressibility being an excellent DHI, particularly for gas. We demonstrate the method on a field dataset from the NW Khilala field located in the Nile Delta.
