Heat Flow Data Correction in the Jeffara Basin - Distribution and Impact on the Tannezzuft Formation Maturity and Hydroca

Abstract
This study proposes a new method of borehole temperature correction adjusted to the Jeffara basin, southern Tunisia. A Cross-Plot method of correction (non corrected BHT temperatures versus DST temperatures) is proposed leading to the following correction equation - BHT_corrected=1,036 BHT_uncorrected+5,9 which is believed to generate corrected temperatures close to formation temperatures. An abacus to estimate the temperature error (ΔT°) according to depth and to TSC intervals is established.
1D thermal maturity modeling of the Silurian Tannezuft hot-shales based on corrected BHT temperatures using the Cross-Plot method proves that the source rock is mature and that it may have expelled oil at a SATEX= 5% and even at SATEX= 10%. Furthermore, to the North of the sector, the source rock is placed at a Late mature stage with gas expulsion. These results come to explain gas condensate production in boreholes drilled in the studied sector.
