Abstract
We present a workflow to assess the suitability of seismic data for Quantitative Interpretation (QI) workflows (elastic inversion, AVO analysis, …) by assessing the stability of wavelets across multiple wells and multiple seismic angle stacks. We present a new method where the well-to-seismic tie problem is phrased as a combined inversion such that wavelet and well path are updated simultaneously. Our method can be used to extract wavelets at multiple wells and for multiple angle stacks that share the same time-to-depth relationship at a particular well. The approach is highly repeatable and since no manual interaction is required after setting up the estimation parameters, it can be applied to many wells. By comparing the wavelets extracted across all wells in the area of interest, and wavelets extracted at single wells of interest, we can judge the stability of the wavelet, and highlight areas (or angle stacks) where the well ties are less reliable, in order to assure that the data is suited for the proposed workflow.
