Abstract

Summary

A non-linear AVO technique was used in an attempt to characterize the internal architecture of fluvial deposits of the Lower Ketch and Murdoch sandstones of the Carboniferous Westphalian C and A respectively, in the Southern North Sea. Although surface seismic shows very subtle seismic features which could be related to fluid fill, validating them with forward modeling has not yet been successful. However, the non-linear AVO results show clear anomalies that are consistent with known and expected reservoir configurations. The quantitative use of these results, as well as their sensitivity to varying data quality is yet to be confirmed with further studies and planned drilling activity.
