Abstract

Summary

Polish Lowland is an area with more than 50-years history of explorating oil and gas reserves. One of two most prominent reservoir rocks in this area is a Rotliegend sandstone, bearing mostly natural gas. In 2013, a large offset 3D seismic survey was carried over north-eastern region of Wolsztyn Bank. This bank is a mesosoic structure, on which slopes Rotliegend sandstone was accumulated (not in every place). The author of this paper made an attempt to determine the viability of use AVO methodology, which in the last years has seen the revival, in this area, what previously hasn’t been done. Using AVO equations, data from well in the nearby area and Microsoft Excel, initial modelling was carried on to show that one can expect small-scale AVO amplitude change on the top and the bottom of sandstone. However, latter conducted AVO analysis in Hampson-Russel Software, showed few regions with very strong AVO response. The author’s master thesis objective, which should be finished in the middle of the year, is to determine the cause of this unexpected behaviour of data, and to rule out the possibility of improper seismic data processing.
