Abstract
The aim of the paper is to discuss the role of pre-existing salt structures on the Zagros folds development, within the Southern Zagros fold and thrust belt, which is characterized by the large extend of the Hormuz salt layer. We based our interpretations on geological observations, with comparison with analogue sand box experiments. Folds formed on top of a preexisting diapir display a peanut like shape on map view with a strong focusing of strain at the location of the former salt body.
