Abstract

The overall goal of this study is to build local high resolution P-wave velocity models and compare them in terms of anomalous velocity intervals in order to improve our understanding of fluid distribution within the study area. The available data consist of six multi-component Ocean Bottom Seismic recorders (OBS), 2D and 3D seismic data. The velocity models have been projected onto vertical seismic profiles. The fluid distribution has been inferred by the simultaneous presence of high amplitude zones (HAZ) and low velocity zones (LVZ). Attribute maps generated for horizons within the LVZ provide a good overview of the differences in fluid flow features within two different dynamic systems in the area. The result of integrating the P-wave velocity analysis and seismic imaging suggests that shallow fluids “reservoirs” occur at two different levels of the sub-seabed. The lateral discontinuity of the reservoir bodies and seals may govern the distribution of the different venting systems in the Nyegga region.
