Abstract

We investigate the effect that fluid flow in a porous medium has on seismic reflection data. By using a mesoscopic-scale poroelastic model for the attenuation effects in the fluid filled porous layer, we are able to construct seismic traces which exhibit the effects of poroelastic layers. The results are seismic data which show changes in frequency and phase due to the presence of the mesoscopic-scale heterogeneities.
