Abstract

Summary

In the paper, a new extended internal multiple removal method is proposed, which combines the concept of constructing virtual seismic events with the Closed Loop-SRME algorithm. The novel method produces an inversion-based internal multiple removal process, in which the primaries free from internal multiples are estimated directly via a waveform inversion instead of the prediction and the subtraction process. So it can not only overcome the problem such as low efficiency and the difficulty of identifying each layer but also avoid the internal multiples subtraction process based on minimum energy which is not always a good assumption. The effectiveness of this new approach will be demonstrated by a simple synthetics model trial and the Pluto model trial. And the results both show that the internal multiple created by the interfaces over the virtual seismic event constructed can be removed effectively.
