Abstract

Summary

The first areas where 4D seismic has been developed was North Sea in mid 90s and then a great development was based on highest quality data recorded in Offshore turbidites environment. Thank to this quality a lot of innovations from seismic processing to integration in reservoir model has been performed. The recent evolution (for the last 10 years) of 4D seismic application domains pushes the geophysicists to work with 4d seismic data of less quality. In this case 4D signal is often mixed in 4D noise and consequently the relationship with Reservoir engineers is not so easy because 4D signals and their interpretation are less obvious. For this reason a good understanding of 4D noise and the creation of a “validity” parameter gives opportunity to qualify and to rank the 4D anomalies. By such a way geophysicists learn to manage 4D seismic uncertainties and reservoir engineers learn to trust 4D seismic anomalies.
