Abstract

Summary

Marine 3D seismic surveys are typically acquired with dense spatial sampling in the inline direction, and much coarser spatial sampling in the crossline direction. The sparse crossline sampling can limit the direct application of processing and imaging algorithms. In this abstract, we present a direct 3D deghosting method that works without expensive data reconstruction in the crossline direction. To achieve this, we make use of the NMO velocity and the acquisition geometry information. This way, we include information about the crossline dips and true receiver positions in the deghosting process. The method deghosts across ghost notches and includes a modified deghosting operator that uses a frequency-dependent reflection coefficient. The proposed deghosting method is a 3D full-bandwidth solution for pressure measurements of conventional towed streamer data. Furthermore, the treatment of the crossline direction can also be applied to multi-component streamer measurements.
