Abstract
Summary
Mode I and mode II and hybrid fractures are concepts frequently used in structural geology studies. While their definition is clear, there is surprisingly little knowledge on how these features form, at which depth and in which stress conditions. This is unfortunate as different modes of fracturing impact, among others, reservoir permeability and mechanic behaviour of fractured rocks. In this study we combine observation from the field and from analog rock experiments to increase our knowledge on these fracture systems and coampare the results with predictions derived from Mohr diagrams
