Abstract
Summary
A knowledge of pore pressure is a critical factor for economic drilling of tight hydrocarbon reservoirs. Based on core measurements, we developed a new model to predict pore pressure from well logs in shaley sandstone reservoirs. The new model accounts for the vertical variation of rock properties and reduces the effect of velocity drifts. The model has been tested on a gas-bearing reservoir from meandering point-bar environments. Results show good agreement between the pore pressure predicted from log data and the pore pressure from measured logs. This confirms that the model is reliable and adequate for predicting pore pressure in shaley sandstone reservoirs and in similar geological formations.
