Abstract

A project to characterize hydrocarbon-contaminated soils due to spills from purge chambers located along a gas transmission system was carried out using geoelectrical methods. These chambers are used to recover gasoline from the gas flowing along pipelines and are distributed usually each two or three kilometers. Control wells located close to them revealed the presence of contaminants, indicating the existence of fissures or defects in the isolation covers in many of them. We show here four cases, which present different characteristics, depending on the depth and thickness of the contaminated lens. We focused our study to show how we combined Wenner and dipole-dipole configurations to better describe each of the studied zones.
