Abstract

An attempt was made to investigate the influence of leachate water to the groundwater from two waste deposits, at Filborna, by electric and electromagnetic methods. The Filborna landfill is one of the biggest in Sweden, and it is situated to the northeast of Helsingborg in southern Sweden. It has been in use since 1951 and the Northwest Scania Solid Waste Company has operated it since 1988. The landfill actually consists of two separate parts of which the larger is active today. The deposits are placed about one kilometre apart. The bedrock in the area mainly consists of sandy siltstone which is interbedded with shales, and the Quaternary deposit consists of till and postglacial fine-sediments. Often the bedrock is fractured and weathered to a degree that makes it difficult to distinguish it from the Quaternary deposit. The hydrogeology in the area is complex. As a result the waste deposits are partly placed on highly permeable material.
