Abstract

Summary

Shales are heterogeneous source rocks and often exhibit complex pore systems. Economical hydrocarbon production from shales necessitates a detailed understanding of the complex reservoir characteristics. This paper presents key characteristics from several unconventional formations in the Middle East including porosity, permeability, TOC and Brittleness Index, and their dependence on mineralogy, clay content and pore type.
