Abstract

In many wells, operations teams are forced to change the pore pressure and fracture gradient models while drilling based on observations at the rig. The work at the rigsite is vital to keep running the operations safely but, often such updates are of empirical models and, because of time pressure, they don´t honour all of the available data. Case studies from three wells show how relevant time analysis by the office based support team has been used to update the rig-site pore pressure, fracture gradient and wellbore stability models while drilling. The results of this more integrated analysis give extra confidence in the model being used at the rig as well as extra insights into the well and the prospect than can be gathered from the update of empirical model.
