Abstract
Of the Australian North West shelf, the Bonaparte Basin still remains largely unexplored and therefore with a large scope for new play types to be identified and discovered. Seismic imaging forms an integral part of this exploration effort, particularly due to the geological and structural complexities associated with the tectonostratigraphic evolution. The deghosted depth migration workflow presented here has resulted in unprecedented definition of structures at Triassic level, first ever indications of AVA anomalies which can be calibrated with existing well data as well as revelation of new play types. More detailed interpretation has allowed reservoir identification and quality prediction for prolific Jurassic and Triassic formations. These results were possible by defining a modern processing workflow suitable for addressing the very clear seismic imaging improvement objectives, constantly cross-checking results with interim tests and integrating all data available together with a good understanding of the exploration objectives in the area.
