Abstract

Summary

We present an integrated workflow with recently collected WAZ seismic and potential field data in the new frontier exploration area of the Campeche Basin in the Gulf of Mexico.

The workflow consists in anomaly enhancement techniques on the gravity data to help locate salt bodies ahead of seismic interpretation, scenario tests on different salt structures to minimize the uncertainty in the seismic interpretation through gravity modeling, delineation of deeper structures using the potential field data to derive basin-scale settings, and, finally, the identification of structural lineaments on the water bottom surface leveraging seismic and non-seismic data.

This integrated approach applied in an under-explored and geologically complex area helped the earth modelers and interpreters to validate the velocity model used for migration and to improve the reliability of the salt body interpretations by using independent measurements.
