Abstract
Summary
In the real Earth, propagating waves can be attenuated due to the anelastic nature of subsurface media, which results in an attenuated gradient for full waveform inversion (FWI). We propose to use phase-dispersion and amplitude-loss decoupled constant-Q wave equation to formulate a Q-compensated gradient, which has the recovered amplitude while preserving the correct kinematics. The gradient compensation is implemented by reversing the sign of the amplitude-loss term in both forward and adjoint operators. Synthetic examples demonstrate that FWI with Q-compensation has a faster reconstruction of velocity model, especially for its deep structures.
