Abstract

Summary

Based on a thematic set of papers published in Petroleum Geoscience, we review the results of a large industry-academic alliance that involved researchers from 14 universities in Europe and N. America. The (FC)2 alliance focused on novel methods to develop carbonate reservoir models based on outcrop analog studies in Europe and N. Africa. The thematic set spans multiple topics including methods to evaluate what matters to a reservoir simulation and in which situations, methods to fill the information gap between wells, techniques to predict the style and distribution of diagenesis, and approaches to represent the essential characteristics multi-scale and complex fracture networks. We will further demonstrate how a new model for industry-academic collaboration delivered research advances and mutual benefits while illuminating future research directions.
