Abstract

Summary

Simultaneous seismic sources have been successfully applied onshore in the Middle East with dramatic improvements in both operational performance and data quality. One of the challenges transferring the technology offshore is the very high level of spatially aliased shot generated guided wave energy which dominates the seismic data recorded in the shallow water hard seabed areas where the offshore oil bearing structures are located in the area.

The results of a pseudo-randomly spaced shot interval test program are presented showing that both the unwanted shots from a second shooting vessel, independent of source separation, and the subsequent shot from the desired source can successfully de-blended using a combination rank reduction wavelet transform approach. This approach allows for record lengths longer than the shot interval so higher shot densities can be used to improve the quality of the resulting seismic image.
