Abstract

Summary

So far, the integration of analytical core data and facies with well log information has been hampered not only by scale and resolution mismatches but also by shortcomings in the reproducibility of manual core facies typing. We present a method to overcome these obstacles by converting core images into high-resolution core logs. Our work lead to the successful calibration grain size property logs against core analytical data from the Nile Delta Pliocene. The results allow higher reproducibility in core facies typing and continuous property analysis that is of particular value in thinly laminated strata. A coupled petrophysical-geological rock typing approach on the core scale will inevitably facilitate back-to-back integration with well log models for improved predictability of facies-tied propagation of rock properties in static 3D reservoir models.
