Abstract

Summary

Accurately recovering the low and middle wavenumber components is of significant importance for FWI. In order to invert for the background model, we propose a Plane wave Multi-scale Full Waveform Inversion (PMFWI) method. The low to middle wavenumber component can be recovered in sequence by controlling the ray parameter. By composing several plane waves for single ray parameter, the illumination is significantly improved. The computational burden is greatly decreased because only a limited amount of plane waves are needed. Besides, numerical tests verify that the inversion strategy proposed in this paper is robust for the high-frequency or noisy data to some extent. The application on a portion of SigsBee 2A model illustrates that combined with conventional FWI, PMFWI can recover the model accurately even for the coarse initial model and high frequency data.
