Abstract
Multipoint Statistic (MPS) algorithms have become preferred techniques in the oil and gas industry to model the geological realism of complex reservoirs. Some criteria or guidance should be provided for the decision of using one MPS technique compared to another. This is the purpose of the presented work, in which SNESIM method and Direct Sampling MPS technique are compared from geological and dynamic aspects. This evaluation workflow is applied on a clastic reservoir with more than 8 years of production. In this work, three geological variables, like: water oil contact, facies proportions and channel orientation, are investigated during the optimization workflow for each MPS technique. Finally, some recommendations are proposed for the selection of the MPS algorithms.
