Abstract
Summary
Although The East African passive margin has proven to be a prolific hydrocarbon province, the Durban basin of South Africa remains relatively under-explored. The recently acquired modern 3D broadband seismic data over an area of 6000 km2 brings new insights to understanding of the geology of the area. Detailed structural interpretation revealed a system of basement highs separated by half-grabens. Numerous leads have been mapped in the drift section for the first time in the 3D. The interpretation and petroleum system modelling results indicate, that there is a high potential for hydrocarbon discoveries in the Durban basin.
