Abstract

Summary

We showed that most of the Effective Medium Theories (T-matrix, Mori-Tanaka, General Singular Approximation, and Effective Field Methods) can be unified into one group on the basis of the so-called Effective Field Hypothesis. Consequently, many different methods give the same results for the same model. Therefore, the model of the rock and choice of model parameters are much more important than the selected EMT method. To demonstrate this statement, two different models of sandstone’s elastic properties were independently created. The models have different parameters. However, a common feature of these independent models is a necessity to include the parameters incorporating 1) the effect of intergranular contacts and organic matter, and 2) connectivity of the components. The two models provide similar results (the difference in velocities is less than 10%) within porosity range 0 – 5%.
