Abstract

Summary

The modelling of geologic processes is poised to make major new contributions in the field of reservoir modelling. This technique is based on numerical simulations that model the processes of erosion, transport and deposition of clastic sediments, as well as carbonate growth and redistribution on the basis of quantitative deterministic physical principles of conservation of mass and energy. The results of such modelling show the geometry and composition of the stratigraphic sequence as a consequence of sea-level change, paleogeography, paleoclimate, tectonics and variation in sediment input (Tetzlaff et al. 2014).

In this paper we use geologic process modelling to simulate examples of both deltaic and shoreline coastal environments and we discuss its potential for the analysis and prediction of reservoir continuity and stratigraphic traps.
