Summary

Seismic processing methods often make the assumption that recorded waves are primaries, and thus require multiples to be suppressed. We use Marchenko redatuming and convolutional interferometry to construct primaries-only data from a synthetic surface reflection data set. We create two primaries-only data sets, with and without including prior information during the Marchenko redatuming, and use semblance velocity analysis to create subsurface velocity models from the original data and the two primaries-only data sets. Absence of a priori information can cause long offset information to be lost in the primaries-only data, but this proves to be advantageous in the case of semblance analysis. We use the velocity models to perform reverse time migration (RTM) of each data set. We find that using primaries-only data can improve both the velocity analysis results and the RTM image.
