Abstract
Full waveform inversion (FWI) is usually challenging due to the lack of reliable low frequency components in the field data. To increase the feasibility of FWI to real data, we suggest a new objective function, which is defined as the global correlation of the envelopes of the modelled and observed data. The envelope-based global correlation norm has both the advantages of the envelope inversion and the global correlation norm that produce artificial low frequency with less sensitivity to amplitude errors. For real OBC data from the North Sea, the envelope-based global correlation norm captures reasonable long-wavelength structures of the survey area and then the conventional global correlation norm helps us obtain the subsurface P-wave velocity with higher resolution.
