Abstract
Seismic data quality can be severely affected by residual acquisition footprints even after footprint suppression has been applied during the seismic processing stages. This type of seismic noise can affect the interpretation of subtle faults and structural features that are important for reservoir interpretation and well prediction. A variety of image processing tools and workflows may be used to detect discontinuities but these can also enhance residual footprints leading to further uncertainty. We propose to use a Gabor Filter during the interpretation stages which will improve fracture/faults/discontinuity detection without enhancing residual footprint. This new attribute is applied on post-migrated seismic data and removes residual footprint, allowing seismic interpreters to better identify structures such as sand channels, faults and Karsts features.
