Abstract

Summary

With the development of exploration technology and the demand for exploration precision, the number of traces on 3D land surveys continues to increase, which can be a huge figure. Before extracting some really useful information based on the data, we usually pick the first arrivals first. So far, many automatic first break picking methods have been proposed. However, these methods often need several parameters or are time-consuming even for a single trace. So a new technique is required for the picking efficiently, especially in the volume of 3D land data. In this paper, an automatic picking method is developed using the consistency of a gather which can take full advantage of the characteristics of the large data. The key of this method is to find the right constraint curve. The whole process has three steps. And a quality control is added to ensure the accuracy of the final picking. Tests on real data show that this technique can achieve a convergent and reliable result efficiently.
