Abstract

Summary

In order to understand the subsurface dynamics of Earth, earthquake activities at the orogenic belt plays a tremendous role in imaging them. We present one such tomography to image the uppermost mantle of the north-eastern Indian Himalayan orogenic belt. Tomography has deduced Pn velocity and anisotropic variations of the uppermost mantle under the concerned region. Pn arrival time data has been utilized from the regional and local events, recorded all across the North eastern India in order to accomplish the task. Utilizing the results from the study we have tried to comment on the possible mantle dynamics undergoing in the region due to which we have observed low velocity region in the certain area.
