Abstract

Summary

We present a new method to map the topography of the crust-mantle boundary and also the sedimentary basin relief in a two layered crustal model by using Evolution Strategy (ES) optimization. For the first time, this method is applied to invert the gravity data. Because of unknown geometry, we deal with a nonlinear inverse problem. In this procedure, L2 norm is utilized to solve the ill-posed issue in inversion problem. Evolution Strategy, a stochastic global optimization method, is independent of starting point and does not require an analytical function and its derivatives. Solutions are iteratively optimized by operators in order to reach a global optimum. We employ synthetic data in both modes firstly without presence noise and then in presence of 3 percent white Gaussian noise. We come to this conclusion that the resultant outcomes demonstrate that this method has an acceptable accuracy for large scale (lengthy) profiles.
