Abstract
The regional model of petroleum system in Mozambique basin is not well known due its structural complexity and limitation of data. A burial history derived from maturity studies carried out by exploration companies and independent consultants across the basin for Pande and Temane key wells indicates that the Lower Domo shales are placed in the oil window at present. Dry gas generation from Lower Domo shales in the offshore, and possibly in the deeper stratigraphic horizons in the onshore area of the basin. Unfortunately, there still concerns on the effectiveness of those results on other portion of the basin with no data coverage.
The main objective of our investigation is to understand the petroleum system associated with Mazenga Graben as a part of the southern branch of the East African Rift System in Mozambique. The investigation will be carried out by identifying and ranking fairways trends for source, reservoir, seal, migration and charge distribution to in order reduce the uncertainties and risk, that could contribute to future oil and gas exploration.
