Abstract
In this study, a computer-aided earthquake warning system consisting of external hardware and software was developed. The external hardware was designed using the basic and inexpensive electronic components and integrated circuits. The hardware has a design consisting of preamplifier, low and high pass filters, gain, dc offset, clipper and microcontroller circuits. The communication between the hardware and computer was provided by using the Universal Serial Bus. The software, displaying the detected signals real-time and warning the people around, was developed by utilizing the C#.NET language. It was used the P and S geophones with 4.5 Hz to detect the signals. When the amplitude of the signal exceeds the threshold value determined by the user, the computer alerts the user with an alarm siren. The software and drivers can be requested from the author.
