Abstract

Summary

The unconventional resources (UCR), denominated like this for their low permeability and low porosity can be important in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons in Mexico.

This paper show research and gather oil and gas shale reservoirs information, show the flow of rock physics, feasibility analysis, a mineralogical model was elaborated, a rock physics model was elaborated and elaboration of cross charts, with the object of supporting opportunities and exploratory locations.

The analysis performed with cross graphs of impedances P and S versus petro physical properties of a UC formation show a narrow relationship among them. Therefore, it is possible to obtain petro physical patterns that can be taken and found in seismic reflectors through elastic properties.

In this case, it was possible to discretize the PAY in the UC formation, thanks to the decrease of carbonate volume and that of the P and S impedances.

The seismic inversion uses results of the rock physics as inputs in order to generate products such as fluid probability maps or horizon slices that help to support leads and exploratory locations where there are no wells and where there is only the seismic section.
