Abstract
Prestack migration by equivalent offsets and common scatterpoint (CSP) gathers is used to velocity model estimation. In order to minimize migration noise and not introduce distortion into the wavelet, it is necessary to identify the optimal migration aperture. The reason for choosing the migration aperture is usually information about the a priori velocity model. The paper suggests a method for optimizing the aperture of the migration, based on an information of the first reflecting boundary form and position. Solution of the direct kinematic problem for the first layer with a curvilinear boundary makes it possible to calculate the migration aperture values close to the size of the first Fresnel zone. Using the optimal migration aperture, one can obtain a qualitative image of the first boundary and correctly determine the velocities in the first layer.
