Abstract

Summary

Water injection is a common process in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), thus understanding of the parameters which affect the water flooding efficiency is imperative. One of the EOR methods that can control the water rheology during the injection and prevents fingering phenomena takes the advantage of water-in-oil emulsion properties. Cobalt oxide (Co2O3) nanoparticles with their properties are able to create a near unstable condition for the oil natural surfactants such as asphaltene. By increasing of surfactant concentration, the surface tension decreases and the emulsification increases. In this study, the effect of Co2O3 nanoparticles concentration on water-in-oil emulsions performance during the water flooding process has been investigated. Before starting off the water injection tests, the optimum concentration of Co2O3 nanoparticles for emulsion formation and its stability has been determined. Obtaining results have been shown that the utilization of Co2O3 nanoparticles for formation of water- in-oil emulsions was helpful.
