Abstract
Shear-wave velocity logs are useful for various seismic applications, including prestack inversion, amplitude-versus-offset analyses and fluid substitution. However, measured shear-wave logs are often unavailable, especially for some old fields. In this paper, we extended the method proposed by Sabrina to estimate shear-wave velocity. The key point of this extended method is to calculate pore compliance parameters, which depend mainly on pore shape, pore compliance and pore fluid. Then pore compliance parameters are used to calculate saturated shear modulus and predict shear-wave velocity. After verifying this method with measured values in clastic and carbonate rocks, we find that shear-wave velocity estimated by extended method is more consistent with measured value than that predicted by conventional method.
