Abstract

Summary

The prospect under study is split between the East and West segment. It is a Statoil operated, Heidrun oil field in the prolific Halten Terrace of the Norwegian Sea. The main targeted formations were from the Jurassic reservoirs. The West prospect segment had a discovery well 1A and a dry well 1B. In the discovery, well 1A, hydrocarbons were found in the Garn formation, approximately 25 MD gas/oil column. Despite this discovery in the west prospect, East fault blocks has not been drilled. Key reason, changes of partners in that license, imposing new owner to justify the exploration strategy and rethinking the entire process.

In this study, after analyzing the predrill seismic data with AVO Reconnaissance; it showed strong anomalies in both West and East prospect. The workflow described in this paper shows how to use available log data from West prospect to validate the West Prospect findings and help interpret the pre-drill seismic data on East prospect.
