Abstract

Summary

Upper and Middle Jurassic sandstones in the Danish Central Graben offer a multitude of reservoir formations, which have been subject to many studies. However, a consistent chronostratigraphic framework linking individual formations to their more proximal or more distal time equivalents has been missing so far. The Danish Central Graben mainly developed in three rift pulses: 1) Callovian - Early Oxfordian, 2) Late Kimmeridgian - Early Volgian, 3) Ryazanian. During the rifting, several subbasins evolved, which offered accommodation space at different times. Also different sediment directions related to different provenance areas have been reported.

In this study, a consistent chronostratigraphic framework covering the northeastern part of the Danish Central Graben has been developed using refined biostratigraphy of more than 30 wells, stacking pattern analysis using log, core and dipmeter data and finally seismic mapping of the sequence boundaries identified at the well locations, partially on broadband seismic data.

The derived structure and thickness maps reveal in high resolution on a semi-regional scale the development of depocenters in individual subbasins at different time intervals, the location of shelf breaks and sediment sources. This provides the basis for facies mapping and predicting the gross depositional environment.
