Abstract

Summary

In this paper we aimed to investigate the mechanisms behind the formation and destruction of foam in the presence of the viscosity enhancing materials for the liquid phase. Bulk foam experiments were performed to investigate the effect of the Newtonian (glycerol) and non-Newtonian (HPAM polymer) fluids. To this end, we checked whether the effect of adding a viscosifying agent can be explained by examining the foam drainage equation. This involves comparing numerical solutions to the drainage equation with the results of the bulk experiments. The liquid drainage through interconnected Plateau borders was found to be the most important foam decay mechanism for this particular research.
