Abstract

Summary

One of the new approaches to an efficient waterflood project is the Water Allocation Management (WAM). WAM means allocating more water to injectors that are well connected to good producers. This will help to reduce water production and improve the sweep efficiency. One of the main parameters that affects the allocation management is the Inter-Well Connectivity of producers and injectors.

In this study, first, several techniques are reviewed for connectivity calculations. Next, a simple reservoir model is employed to study the application of each technique. Then, by combining the connectivity results with the oil production performance of each producer, a new analytical method for distributing the water between injectors, is proposed. The best inter-well connectivity calculation method is the one which results in more oil recovery.

At last the new analytical method is applied on a North Sea reservoir. The results of applying the new analytical method for water allocation management after 40 years show improvement in waterflood performance. More cumulative oil is produced and water production is decreased.
